The one salary-negotiation line I have ever actually needed

"Is there any flexibility on the base?" Then say nothing. Let the silence sit. It works far more often than it has any right to, because most first offers have deliberate room built in.

The silence after the ask is the whole technique. Do not rescue them from it.

Turned down for being "overqualified" for a role I actively wanted

atFlipkart · rejected

I told them plainly I wanted the scope and the team, not a title. Did not matter. "You will be bored and leave." I promise I will happily do the work I applied for. Please just let me.

"Overqualified" is code for "we are scared you will ask for more later". Frustrating.

I sent a polite follow-up. Then a second. The third one I did not send, I just closed the tab

atMyntra

There is a specific grief in drafting a fourth "just checking in" email and realizing you are the only one still in this relationship. Deleted it. Moved on. Freeing, actually.

Mass-recruiter reality: Infosys was aptitude, a short coding test, then an HR round

atInfosys · accepted

Very different world from the product loops on here. Aptitude + verbal, a basic coding/technical round, then HR. Volume hiring, so it moves in batches. Not glamorous, but a real first job is a real first job. No shame in starting here.

You've reached the Mariana Trench. That's everything for now.
