Turned down for being "overqualified" for a role I actively wanted

I told them plainly I wanted the scope and the team, not a title. Did not matter. "You will be bored and leave." I promise I will happily do the work I applied for. Please just let me.

"Overqualified" is code for "we are scared you will ask for more later". Frustrating.
