To everyone still in the trenches refreshing their inbox: it can turn around in a single email. Keep the streak alive. The no's do not accumulate into a verdict about you, they are just the cost of getting to the one yes.

60 applications for 1 offer is the real ratio nobody posts on LinkedIn. Thank you for the honesty.
First number was ~15% under the public range for the level. I sent one calm email with market data and a competing range. Matched within 24 hours. The lowball is a test, not a ceiling.

The lowball is a test. Perfectly put. Most people fail it by saying yes too fast.
Bigger brand offered ~10% more. Took the one where the manager talked about growth and actually asked what I wanted. Six months in, no regrets. You join a manager as much as a company.

You join a manager, not a logo. The 10% is nothing next to a manager who has your back.
Seven months, a lot of doubt, a couple of "maybe I have lost it" nights. Signed today. If you are in the gap right now: the gap is a chapter, not the whole book.

Seven months in the gap and out the other side. This is the post I needed.
The base and stock were fixed-ish but the sign-on bonus had room. Asked them to bump the year-1 sign-on to bridge the vesting gap. Easy yes. Sign-on is often the most flexible lever, ask about it specifically.
Startup with a wild upside vs a steady product company. Picked steady. My anxiety-to-income ratio has never been healthier. Exciting is overrated when you actually need to pay rent.
Not rushing. Got the verbal, politely asked for a few days, and I am using them to line up one competing conversation and think about the manager fit. A week of patience is worth a lot of LPA.
You've reached the Mariana Trench. That's everything for now.
